Concrete for the County Seat
Lebanon is the county seat of Warren County, and concrete contractors who work in Lebanon see both an old downtown and newer neighborhoods. The town was laid out in September 1802 and named after the biblical Lebanon for its many cedar trees. The Golden Lamb, established in 1803, is the oldest hotel in Ohio. The 2020 census counted 20,841 people and 8,361 housing units on about 13.2 square miles.
Growth, then a slowdown
Lebanon grew from 16,962 residents in 2000 to 20,033 in 2010, an 18.1 percent jump, then to 20,841 in 2020, just 4 percent more. Homes added during that boom now have concrete that has been through many winters. Driveways and patios of that age often show:
- Hairline cracks that have widened
- Settled panels near the garage
- Scaling from salt
- Small builder patios owners have outgrown
Tight housing market
The 2020 census found only 3.4 percent of Lebanon homes vacant, with a homeowner vacancy rate of 0.9 percent and a rental vacancy rate of 2.6 percent. Owners are staying put and improving what they have. That shows up as requests for:
Concrete patios large enough for outdoor dining.
Stamped concrete for patios and front walks.
Concrete driveways widened for another vehicle.
Garage and shed slabs for added storage.
Downtown and older homes
Near the historic downtown, older houses need sidewalks and steps rebuilt, narrow drives replaced and old garage floors redone. On those streets we keep the finish simple so it fits the block. For homes that need only part of a slab fixed, concrete repair and replacement of individual sections saves the rest.
Drainage and base
Lebanon sits at about 748 feet. Whatever the elevation, the base under a slab decides how long it lasts. We dig out the old base, check the soil, compact new gravel and slope the surface to drain.
Winter wear
Freeze-thaw cycles in southwest Ohio are hard on exterior concrete. We use air-entrained mixes, cut control joints on time and recommend sealing after curing.
Planning a larger patio
A bigger patio starts with how you use it. We ask how many people you seat, where the grill goes, and whether you want a fire pit or a hot tub. Then we mark the shape in the yard so you can see it before we dig. The patio is sloped about an eighth to a quarter inch per foot away from the house, with joints placed to suit the shape.
Widening a driveway
When a driveway is too narrow for two cars side by side, we can widen it with an added strip, tied in with dowels so the two sections do not separate. The new strip uses the same thickness and base as the original.
Sidewalks and steps near downtown
Older homes near the historic downtown often have walks and steps that have settled for decades. We rebuild them on a firm base with even risers and a slip-resistant finish, keeping the look simple so they fit the street.
Repair before replace
If only part of a slab has failed, we tell you. Cutting out and replacing a few panels costs far less than a full tear-out and can extend the life of the rest of the drive.
Garage and shed slabs
A new shed or workshop needs a slab that stays level. We build it on compacted gravel with a thickened edge where walls bear, and confirm setbacks with the city first.
Permits
Lebanon has its own city rules. We check with the city about permits for work at the street or for accessory buildings before scheduling, and the answer goes on your written estimate so you know what to expect before any work begins.

Lebanon Questions
My 2000s driveway has cracks. Should I replace it?
If a few panels have failed, we can replace just those. If cracks run through most of the drive, full replacement usually makes more sense.
Can you build a stamped patio for outdoor dining?
Yes. We size it for your table and seating, choose a pattern and color with you, and seal it after curing.
Do you work near downtown Lebanon?
Yes. On older streets, we keep finishes simple so new walks and steps fit in.
